A Look at the Future World

5 MASTERCLASS VIDEOS AND 2 PODCASTS ON THE MEGATRENDS IMPACTING OUR LIVES. AN INITIATIVE PROMOTED WITH FINANCIAL TIMES, PARTNER WITH BOCCONI FOR FTXBOCCONI CHALLENGE

The economy, politics, healthcare, work – so many aspects of our society have been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. And the post-pandemic world will also be dealing with other pre-existing forces – such as shifts in the global economy and climate change. And so our society has to be ready to transform and adapt. To understand these changes and challenges Bocconi has produced a series of masterclass videos, ‘Future World’, with professors and prominent guests discussing the forces at work impacting the economy, climate change, digital transformation, population change and European politics.

Future World, promoted by Bocconi together with Financial Times, is also the cue for the 3rd edition of FTxBocconi Talent Challenge, the competition that will see university students and young professionals from all over the world called upon to develop innovative ideas and solutions for today’s hybrid world, keeping in mind the megatrends discussed in the series. https://fttalent.ft.com/ftxbocconi2022/

In his masterclass, Michael Spence, Nobel Prize in Economics in 2001 and Professor of Economics at Bocconi, outlines his ideas on where we should look for economic growth in the coming years and his outlook for post-pandemic recovery. With guest, Fred Hu, Chairman of Primavera Capital Group, giving insight into what he is seeing in terms of growth and entrepreneurial activity in China and across Asia.

Rector Gianmario Verona illustrates how the pandemic gave us a clear idea of the relevance of Digital Transformation to our lives, his outlook on the impact of technology and how we will live in a hybrid world. Vittorio Colao, Minister of technological innovation and digital transition of the Italian government, explains the scope and impact of the EU’s Next Gen Fund.

From Digital Transformation to climate change. Valentina Bosetti, professor of Environmental and Climate Change Economics at Bocconi, gives her overview of where we are and where we are heading regarding climate challenge, the challenges and possible solutions. Barbara Buchner, Senior Director of Climate Policy Initiative, gives insight on the problems and challenges facing developing and emerging economies and how advanced economies can best support them.

In another masterclass, Francesco Billari, demography scholar at Bocconi, talks about the future demographic scenarios and the population changes underway. With guest Dubravka Šuica, Vice President of the European Commission and Commissioner for Democracy and Demography, talking about the important demographic challenges for the EU and its policy makers.

Catherine De Vries, who studies European politics, gives her view on if, after the coronavirus outbreak, Europe is ready or not to face its next challenges, finding a united front in a divided economic and political landscape. Timothy Garton-Ash, commentator and author, adds insight on the best pathways for the EU to move forward and how to unite European citizens.
