Bocconi4Europe: Let's Get to Know Europe

IN CONJUNCTION WITH EUROPEAN SPRING, THE UNIVERSITY AT VIA SARFATTI 25 IS LAUNCHING A PROGRAM OF INITIATIVES

To promote scientific and technological progress; drive sustainable development based on balanced economic growth; fight against social exclusion and discrimination; and respect the richness of its cultural diversity. These are just some of the objectives that Bocconi, always fully integrated into the European context, shares with the European Union.

Bocconi could be characterized as having an Italian heart and a European spirit. Starting from European Spring (Primavera dell'Europa), the University will draw on its knowhow to encourage the dissemination of knowledge about European Union institutions and values with a series of initiatives.

"Every day for decades, the Italian and European flags have greeted those who walk along Via Sarfatti," explains Mario Monti, President of Bocconi. "Today and in the coming days, the same flags will be waving, virtually, also on Via Roentgen, as a testament to Bocconi's willingness to contribute proactively to the European integration project, pushing Europe to improve and renew itself, with the awareness of its current weaknesses, but also of its many strengths.”

A number of intiatives launched by Bocconi are gathered under the hashtag #Bocconi4Europe, starting from one involving the European Documentation Center. An information desk has been set up from 20 to 22 March as part of a project of EDC's Italian network, called European Spring - European Elections 2019: Citizens Voting in a Changing Europe.

In the month of April on Instagram, in collaboration with La Stampa newspaper and the Italian representation of the European Commission and the European Parliament, Bocconi professors Carlo Altomonte and Eleanor Spaventa will be available to respond to questions and comments along with experts from those EU institutions. The accounts to follow are: @unibocconi, @lastampa, @europainitalia.

To close the circle, the results of Bocconi research on European themes and perspectives will be the cover story of the May issue of Via Sarfatti 25, the University's magazine. Articles will range from the rise of nationalism, Brexit, fundamental rights and the challenges of the single supervisory mechanism to the common features of European capitalism and strategies for combatting disinformation. These topics and more will be dealt with in pieces by Carlo Altomonte, Franco Amatori, Leonardo Borlini, Brunella Bruno, Elena Carletti, Italo Colantone, Francesco Decarolis, Paola Mariani, Angela Pettinicchio, Oreste Pollicino, Andrea Resti, Graziella Romeo, Tom Schmitz, Piero Stanig, and Gianmarco Ottaviano. Also featured in the cover story will be Bocconi alumni who collaborate with European institutions. They will talk about their experiences and what their commitment to Europe represents for them, starting with the experiences of Mario Nava and Mario Monti.
