President Monti Previews the Topics of the Opening of the Academic Year

IN A VIDEO INTERVIEW WITH SOLE 24ORE, PROF. MONTI STRESSED THE DECISIVE ROLE PLAYED BY EUROPE FOR INNOVATION

"It is only with more competence and more Europe that we, Italians too, can move forward", said the Bocconi President, Mario Monti, in a video interview with Sole 24Ore, which anticipates the themes of the next opening ceremony of the academic year (Monday, 10 am, Aula Magna Roentgen).

«Europe is doing a lot for innovation», said Prof. Monti, recalling the European Research Council which, for 11 years, has been an efficient system for allocating research funds on a competitive basis, which uses projects’ quality as its sole criterion and manages to promote joint programs between countries. Bocconi, recalled Monti, is successfully engaged in this competition.

«Today, economic competition - which produces jobs and prosperity - is based on a wider geographical scale than in the past», said the University's President, «and on competence, which means pushing the boundaries of knowledge thanks to research».
