Why We Need Generous Leaders in Purpose Driven Organizations

IN THE FIFTH INSTALMENT OF THE EXECUTIVE CHATS SERIES, RECTOR GIANMARIO VERONA MEETS LUCA DE MEO, PRESIDENT OF SEAT'S EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE AND 2017 BOCCONI ALUMNUS OF THE YEAR

A generous leadership in a purpose-driven organization is Luca De Meo’s recipe for tomorrow’s successful managers. Rector Gianmario Verona meets the Chairman of SEAT’s Executive Committee in the fifth instalment of the Executive Chats series and they discuss about innovation, leadership and… Bocconi.

The automotive industry is being disrupted by four trends, Mr. De Meo says: electrification; new network and communication technologies that will integrate the car in the internet of things; new sensors and the push towards the self-driving car; the rising preference for using a car instead of owning it.

Leadership, in Mr. De Meo’s vision, needs to be generous (meaning that other people must feel that you are asking more to yourself than to them) and lay the foundations of a purpose-driven organization, which is what new generations are looking for.

Finally Mr. De Meo, the 2017 Bocconi Alumnus of the Year, says that he considers Bocconi one of the few fixed points of his ever-changing life.
