Sports and Social Commitment with NBA Athletes

Who, whether a simple fan or basketball player at any level, would not want to have the thrill of challenging the stars of the NBA on the parquet, at least once in their life? Of course, it’s a disaster waiting to happen, but wouldn’t you want the satisfaction of being able to tell about it?  This is what happened on Tuesday 14 June at the new Bocconi Sport Center, where about 20 young players of Tam Tam Basket, a sports association founded in 2016 in Castel Volturno and composed of young immigrants, had the opportunity to compete with some stars of the highest professional league in the world, including  Danilo Gallinari, Kemba Walker, Jonas Valanciunas, Jusuf Nurkic and Mason Plumlee.

The event is part of a wider program, three days of classroom and panel moments, which constitute the "More than a  game 3.0" initiative, created in collaboration between SDA Bocconi School of Management and NPBA Foundation and which takes place from 13 to 15 June. "These are days in which exceptional speakers take turns in the classroom, for example the Nigerian player of the Sacramento Kings, Chimezie Metu.  Their talks revolve around three pillars: identity (visual representation of successful Italian people of color with a background similar to theirs), wellness (focus on the importance of mental and physical strength) and career (exposure to jobs in the sports and entertainment sector for  TamTam young people that might never have existed but that will be accessible to them)," explains Luca Antonelli, program coordinator of the course and junior fellow of Marketing Management at SDA Bocconi. "On Tuesday 14, the event includes a series of sports activities in the Sport Center of the University.  Through this program, participants will get the resources necessary to be changemakers in their communities," continues Luca Antonelli, "and develop a roadmap to achieve their goals by overcoming challenges and discriminatory laws, and learning how they can have an impact."

"More than a game 3.0" is part of the multi-year SDA Bocconi for Growth project, launched in 2012, an initiative with which the School makes its knowledge available free of charge, offering concrete support to young people, micro enterprises and small non-profit organizations.
