The Future of Europe at the Heart of a Multicampus Experience

BOCCONI STUDENTS CAN REGISTER FOR THE NEW CIVICA EUROPEANSHIP MULTICAMPUS COURSE WHICH WILL SEE STUDENTS FROM UNIVERSITIES OF THE ALLIANCE FOCUSING ON THE FUTURE OF EUROPE

After such crises as Brexit and the Covid pandemic, Europe faces challenging times and critical analysis of the EU’s response and policy-making will be at the core of the new CIVICA Europeanship Multicampus course which will start in the first semester of academic year 2021/22. Students will examine challenging areas of policy-making facing the EU posed by forces such as globalization, climate change and digital transformation and work in teams on a final project on solutions to a specific policy problem.

The graduate course on the ‘Future of Europe’ is the first Europeanship Multicampus course, one of the flagship initiatives of CIVICA, the alliance of eight leading European higher education institutions in social sciences. The course will be open to around 200 master’s students from the partner universities, including 30 slots for Bocconi MSc students.

The course, designed and taught jointly by a team of professors from the different partners of the alliance, will be delivered synchronously across all the campuses of the CIVICA consortium as a series of live online lectures. integrated with local activities – Bocconi students will have additional lectures providing the historical framework of reference and focusing on Franco- German relations. The four thematic modules of the course are: Globalisation and economic shocks; Environment, sustainability, the EU Green Deal; Digitalisation and innovation; Democracy, governance and populism in the EU. The final evaluation of the course will be based on a group capstone project, to be developed by teams of 4-6 students across at least 2 campuses, that addresses in detail a concrete policy challenge that the EU faces.

“The formula of the course is very innovative – bringing together all in one course the competences of leading professors on European studies from a group of top universities,” says Carlo Altomonte, Professor of Economics of European Integration at Bocconi and coordinator of the course. “The project exercise closing the course is also very innovative - allowing students to concretely understand about policy-making and working together in teams with a truly intercultural exchange.”

The Future of Europe will be offered as an elective course to second year MSc Bocconi students who can register through the Punto Blu points starting July 26 (and until the maximum number of participants is reached). This course is part of the CIVICA Europeanship Certificate awarded to students participating in CIVICA activities during their MSc career.
