Urbano Cairo and the Transformation of the Publishing Business

THE PUBLISHER OF CORRIERE DELLA SERA CONCLUDED THE CSUITE FORUM OF THE EXECUTIVE MASTER IN FINANCE, BY DELIVERING A SPEECH THAT FOCUSED ON THE FIGHT AGAINST FAKE NEWS, AND THE CHALLENGES OF COST MANAGEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY IN NEWSPAPER PUBLISHING

On Friday evening, with a speech, Bocconi Alumnus Urbano Cairo, president of RCS Media Group and Cairo Communication (owner of La7 TV network), concluded the C-suite Forum, one of the defining moments of the Executive Master in Finance of the the SDA Bocconi School of Management.

Born out of an innovative formula focused on involving top managers at major companies in the discussion with Master students on business transformation in finance, the Forum saw the participation of 24 executives. This was just the final phase, because the participants and the companies involved in the Master's syllabus have interacted through the C-suite Forum since last May, through coursework, business analysis, and working on specific assignments dealing with actual corporate objectives.

"Our participants have had the opportunity to work in the field and then be exposed to the visions and challenges of many CEOs, country heads, and industry directors concerning how value chains are changing in every industry and consequently the necessity to update relevant financial skills", says the academic director of the Executive Master in Finance, Andrea Beltratti.

Cairo concluded the C-suite with a talk on the industry scenarios for publishing, emphasizing how quality journalism is the only defense of last resort against the spread of fake news and how cost management and a clear development strategy are fundamental for a publishing company to succeed, sidestepping the trap of blind cuts. This was a clear example of business transformation in a sector other than finance.

The Executive Master in Finance is a 12-month program with classes every other weekend. It is aimed at executives who want to boost their careers in finance by acquiring a high level of specialization in four different areas (asset/ wealth management, banking, corporate finance and control, and real estate) while developing leadership and networking skills.
