Marc Spiegler at Bocconi to Discuss Art and Social Media

A ROUNDTABLE WITH THE DIRECTOR OF ART BASEL AND FOUR ART PROFESSIONALS WILL BE HELD ON 28 MARCH AT 6:30PM, ABOUT THE WEB'S ROLE TRANSFORMING THE SYSTEM

Marc Spiegler, the Global Director of Art Basel, one of the most important contemporary art fair systems today which has events in Basel, Miami and Hong Kong, will be at Bocconi on Tuesday 28 March. Along with representatives of several well-known art galleries, he will talk about the role the internet is playing in transforming the sector (6:30pm, Aula Manfredini, via Sarfatti 25).

Spiegler, who also teaches as part of the course Art Management and Markets at Bocconi along with Stefano Baia Curioni, Vice President of the Art, Science and Knowledge (ASK) research center at Bocconi, will discuss the topic with art dealers Maria Bernheim (Galerie Maria Bernheim, Zurich), Emanuela Campoli (Campoli Presti, Paris/London), Francesca Kaufmann (Kaufmann Repetto, Milan) and Oliver Newton (47 Canal, New York).

“Over the past fifteen years, the internet has not affected the global system of contemporary art causing the same disintermediation effects that have been seen in music or publishing,” explains Baia Curioni. “If anything, the web has contributed to redefining the roles and opportunities within a system that has remained highly hierarchical. But that has been true until now. Things may still be changing.”
