Playing for the Oscars

Luca Benedetto, a law student, wrote a song that will be part of the soundtrack of the upcoming film by Gabriele Salvatores. Chosen from among hundreds of entrants, Luca is delighted, but tries to keep his head clear and his mind on his studies

He has not yet met the great director personally, but the meeting will take place soon. For now, Luca Benedetto, a student of the fifth year of the Law program at Bocconi, has had dealings with members of the staff of Indigo Film and that is already very gratifying. Luke is one of three winners of the competition launched by Indigo, Rai Cinema, 01 Distribution and Radio Deejay to give young musicians the opportunity to propose their songs for the soundtrack of Il ragazzi invisibile, the new film by Gabriele Salvatores coming out in December.

"It 's been a great thrill to be chosen," says Luke, 23, of La Spezia, "When you enter a contest like that you hope to win, but you do not believe it will ever turn out that way ...". In fact there were over 400 participating songs, and more than a thousand musicians involved. Some of them are already well established, and for Luke it was a great opportunity to get to know them. "I have been playing since I was a child, I tried many instruments, and at 14 I chose the bass. But my greatest passion is writing songs, even more than playing. "

Luke, who last year created the soundtrack of Le Kiss Noir, a musical film produced by students as part of a university project, is in the process of recording the song which, along with the other two chosen cuts, will be presented the November 1 at Lucca Comics, together with the presentation of the film and of the Marvel comic on which it has been based.

He was projected into a new dimension, which has "changed my life a little", but Luca Benedict tries to keep his feet on the ground, "because I like to study law. My father is a lawyer, but I am not foced to do it. My interest is in particular for industrial law and the protection of copyright, and this again brings me close to music. Let's say that at the moment, I haven't excluded any path. "Luca is also going to graduate from the music school CPM, where teacher Franco Mussida also produced one of his songs. University is going fine, but this sudden notoriety has slowed the rhythm of the examinations down a bit. "When they called me to tell me that I was among the winners," says Luke, "I was studying administrative law. I dropped everything and I had to postpone the exam. I hope the professor doesn't get too angry ... ".
