Marta Cartabia Is a Bocconi Professor as of Today

AS A FACULTY MEMBER IN THE DEPARTMENT OF LEGAL STUDIES, THE PRESIDENT EMERITUS OF THE CONSTITUTIONAL COURT WILL TEACH COURSES IN ITALIAN AND EUROPEAN CONSTITUTIONAL LAW AND ADVANCED CONSTITUTIONAL LAW

Bocconi students of constitutional law will have a president of the Constitutional Court as their professor: from today, in fact, Marta Cartabia assumes the role of full professor at the Bocconi Department of Legal Studies and will hold courses in Italian and European constitutional law and advanced constitutional law / constitutional justice.

Already a member of the Consulta since 2011, Cartabia held the position of president from 2019 until the end of her mandate on 13 September."I consider the care and education of the younger generations to be the first among public duties", comments the president emeritus of the Court. "We must be close to young people by investing in their training".

The entry of a figure of Ms Cartabia’s caliber is part of the overall development strategy undertaken in recent years by the Department of Legal Studies. "Our strategy", explains the Director of the Department Marco Ventoruzzo, "aims to make Bocconi University a place of excellence in the research and teaching of modern jurisprudence, with the ability to affect Italian domestic law from an international and comparative perspective. And by exploiting a fundamental dimension: that of an interdisciplinary study both among the different branches of law and in concert with the other social sciences".

Further underlining the importance of the presence in the ranks of the Bocconi professors of the former president of the Council is Prof. Francesco Billari: "The entrance of Marta Cartabia", explains the Dean of the Faculty, "is one of the best examples of our ambitions to attract the best teachers in the world in our fields of expertise, and her experience at such high institutional levels represents the essence of the University's motto: Knowledge that matters ".

Appointed constitutional judge on 11 September 2011 by the President of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano, Marta Cartabia was Vice-President of the Court from 2014 and then President from December 2019 to 13 September 2020. Full professor of constitutional law, between 1999 and 2011 Cartabia taught at the University of Milan, the University of Verona, and the University of Milan-Bicocca, as well as holding numerous visiting professorship positions at universities around the world.

Now that Marta Cartabia joins criminal lawyer Francesco Viganò, the number of constitutional judges in the Bocconi Department of Legal Studies rises to two.
