Covid19: Bocconi Research on the Economic, Social, Legal, and Health Care Impacts
THE LATEST ISSUE OF VIASARFATTI25 MAGAZINE, BOCCONI'S MONTHLY, IS NOW ONLINE. IT IS ENTIRELY DEVOTED TO STUDIES DONE BY THE UNIVERSITY'S COVID CRISIS LAB. THE FLEDGLING RESEARCH HUB INVESTIGATES THE IMPACT OF THE VIRUS THROUGH THE WORKS OF 50 PROFESSORSA very special issue, completely devoted to Covid19 research and studies produced by Bocconi. That descibes the latest edition of the University monthly, viaSarfatti25, online today. In fact, this expanded version of the magazine collects all the early production of the new Covid Crisis Lab, the research laboratory born during the pandemic to study the impact of the virus on health, society, economy, finance and businesses and the legal system.
Over 50 Bocconi researchers appear in the 74 pages of the issue, including economists, demographers, political scientists, computer science scholars, health economics and global health experts, historians, along with fellow professors of finance, gender economics, law, business strategy, labor economics and marketing.
Among the research projects described in this issue, we go from the analysis of the Lombardy case (Alessia Melegaro) and the real mortality rate in the Italian regions (Elio Borgonovi and Ilaria Capua), to studies on the impact of social relations and intergenerational contacts in the spread of the disease (Nicoletta Balbo). We look at the reaction of the financial markets to the news about the pandemic on Twitter (Mariano Max Croce), and the impact on life expectancy (Simone Ghislandi). We deal with a statistical analysis of the effectiveness of distancing measures (Emanuele Borgonovo), and the attitudes of the population towards the government during the lockdown (Arnstein Aassve). There is a study on the impact of smartworking on family dynamics and the effect of Covid on women's employment (Paola Profeta and Alessandra Casarico), and one on the effect of the lockdown on pollution (Marco Percoco). And then there are analyses of the impact on the labor market (Tito Boeri, Vincenzo Galasso and Thomas Le Barbanchon), the costs of social distancing (Basile Grassi and Julien Sauvagnat), and the reaction of legislation to the new event of the pandemic (Pietro Sirena, Arianna Vedaschi and Oreste Pollicino). We investigate the public's propensity towards virtual visits to museums (Anastasia Nanni) and analyze the reactions of the population in balancing the relationship between restrictive measures and liberal norms (Catherine De Vries).
