Raimondo Campisi was born into an artistic family. His mother, from Greece, and his father, from Italy, were both pianists who taught at the "Tiegerman Piano Academy" in Cairo. This background provoked a profound passion for music from a young age. At the age of four, after hearing his father playing, he sat down at another piano and started copying his father playing Brahms. Realizing his son's exceptional talent, his father began to teach him. Raimondo later studied under Ignace Tiegerman, director of the Academy who was a student of one of Chopin's students. In 1958, the Campisi family returned to Milan and Raimondo soon began studying with Alberto Mozzati. During the following seven years of study and subsequent graduation from the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan, Campisi met international musicians such as Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, Nikita Magaloff, Tito Fontana and Duke Ellington. He soon developed a deep interest in jazz as well and became one of the first pianists of his time to be equally adept at playing both styles. His recital of Gershwin and other composers at Wigmore Hall in 1986 abundantly displayed his unique talent. The author of several compositions, he has held over 2,000 concerts around the world. He has also won several international competitions, including the M. Canals competition in Barcelona with the first Ravel prize, the special audience award at the George Cziffra Concert, and first prize and honorable mention at the Pozzoli Competition at the Chopin International Competition in Poland. He has also been awarded the title of "Knight of the Arts" by the President of Italy and was elected Artistic Advisor of the "Italians Abroad" Association.
