Bocconi is Studying Change for the Italian Air Force

SDA BOCCONI SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT HAS PRESENTED A CASE STUDY ON HOW ITALIAN MILITARY AVIATION IS TRANSFORMING ITS ORGANIZATION TO RESPOND TO SCENARIO CHANGES

A complete organizational rethinking to better respond to the challenges of the current geopolitical scenario. This is what the Italian Air Force has managed to achieve, as it emerges from the case study "Virtute Siderum Tenus. The Italian Air Force Case Study" prepared by SDA Bocconi School of Management in collaboration with Italy’s Air Force, and officially presented at Palazzo dell’Aeronautica in Rome today.

Part of the Framework Agreement of 26 March 2018 between the Air Force and Bocconi University, the English version of the case study will be published in the "The Case Center" database, shared by the major international business schools and distributed as learning tool on the subject of managing change.

During the ceremony, the Dean of SDA Bocconi School of Management, Giuseppe Soda, gave the Air Force Deputy Chief of Staff, General Luca Goretti, the first bound copy of the case study, which analyzes the transformation process of the Air Force General Staff within the framework of the broader commitment to innovation in military aviation.

In fact, the case being studied presents a paradigmatic example of how a large and complex government organization was able to cope with the three main drivers of change underway, namely budgetary constraints, the race for technological innovation, and the need to adapt its own intervention strategy based on changed international security conditions. As emerges from the case study, change at the Air Force meant a profound rethinking of the entire organizational structure and a complete review of the decision-making and strategic processes, in order to address more rapidly and efficiently emerging problems in the field.
