Put on Your Tennis Shoes, Bocconi Is Taking the Field for a Day

ON WEDNESDAY 17 APRIL, THE 2019 EDITION OF BOCCONI SPORTS DAY WILL TAKE PLACE. THE EVENT IS DEDICATED TO SPORTS AND IS OPEN TO THE WHOLE UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY

It has become a fixture on the spring calendar at Bocconi each year. For the fourteenth consecutive year, Bocconi Sports Day is back, with a festival that celebrates the activities of the Bocconi Sport Team. It is scheduled for Wednesday, April 17, starting at 9am. There will be three-a-side soccer, basketball and volleyball tournaments, but also table tennis and foosball, plus demonstrations of golf, lacrosse and rugby open to all students as well as teachers and staff.

"The Bocconi Sport Team organizes activities that involve around 1,000 students each year," says executive vice president Alessandro Ciarlo, "of which 600 are registered members. Of these, 250 take part in competitive or amateur sports”. As far as competitive activities are concerned, in fact, Bocconi Sport Team squads compete in the federal championships, in particular basketball, volleyball and 5-a-side football (in Serie C), women's volleyball (second division) and lacrosse (single national series), but also at UISP and university competitions. "Both the men's and women's tennis teams are current Milanese champions", continues Ciarlo, "but Bocconi Sport Team is much more. We take part in international events such as the Montecarlo HEC Clay Court Challenge Tennis (men's and women's) and Paris EuroparisCup of Feminine Indoor Tournament (women's 5-a-side football). We also organize tournaments inside the university such as the Bocconi Soccer Cup, for which every year about 200 students sign up, and events such as Sailing Days and Snow Days ".

Doing sports with your fellow students is a special thing in life: “The memory I will always have of this sport is the strong sense of belonging and community that binds me to my companions and that gives my University experience a special flavor ", is how Jean Yves Santini, a management student born in France, describes his relationship with lacrosse. For Camilla Paracchini, a student of the Bachelor of Economics and Management for Arts, Culture and Communication and middle-distance runner, "sports will always be an indispensable part of my life. A memory that I will always carry with me from the University were the Bocconi Sailing Days, a 3-day experience organized by the Sport Team: I left without knowing any of the other students and without having ever spent a night on a boat, but as we sailed I felt like part of a family that lived in close contact 24 hours a day ”.
