The Champions League, at Bocconi Between Past and Future

The trophy will be at Bocconi on May 11 and 12 with a conference on the financial and management aspects of sports events and an exhibition of memorabilia from past editions of the competition

On May 11 and 12 there will already be an air of Champions League at Bocconi, in advance of the final on May 28 at San Siro stadium, with the arrival and display of the trophy at the University. The occasion will also see a conference on the importance and the economic, social and cultural impact of this sporting event and an exhibition, already open to the public, of memorabilia from recent editions of the competition.

The conference 'The Value of the UEFA Champions League Final. Bringing stakeholders to the ultimate stage', on Wednesday 11 May at 5:30pm, is organized by the Bocconi Sport Campus Committee, the Sport Knowledge Center of SDA Bocconi and UEFA in collaboration with Bocconi Alumni Association and La Gazzetta dello Sport. Among the participants, Guy-Laurent Epstein, Marketing Director at UEFA, Lindsey Jackson, Director of Event of Wembley Stadium, Francesca Sanzone, deputy CEO of the Italian Football Federation, Andreas Jung, Executive Board Member of FC Bayern Munich, Raul Sanllehí, Director of Football at FC Barcelona, Javier Zanetti, Vice President Internazionale FC and former Champions League winner, Pierluigi Collina, Chief Refereeing Officer at UEFA and coach Marcello Lippi. The conference will kick off with the arrival on stage of the trophy carried by Zanetti.

"The conference aims to analyse the organization of the Final and the impact and value for the territory and all the various stakeholders involved. There will be in fact representatives of the organizing city, the sponsors, the broadcasters, the clubs, and, lastly, the protagonists on the pitch," explains Dino Ruta, coordinator of Bocconi Sport Campus. "The interest generated highlights the growing importance of the study of the financial management levers of such sporting events."

On Thursday 12 the trophy will then be on show all day at the exhibition of Champions League memorabilia, on loan from UEFA, which is already open on the ground floor of the Via Sarfatti building. Among the various objects on show, the boots worn by Diego Milito in the 2010 final, the shirts worn by Lionel Messi in the 2011 final and by Philipp Lahm in 2013, Andrés Iniesta's boots from the 2015 final and autographed balls used in the finals of 2007, 2009, 2012 and 2013.
