Students and New Graduates as Protagonists of the Investment Bank Weekends

, by Benedetta Ciotto
More than 19 investment banks came to Bocconi to present their summer internship programs, choosing young Bocconians as testimonials

Silvia Bandinu, Gabriele Bier and Michele Tasselli have not yet graduated but on Friday 2 October, in the context of the Investment Bank Weekends, they were behind Ubs' stand, chosen as testimonials after a 9-week summer internship. They already have a contract; they will start working in 2016, after having finished their studies.

The event, where banks can promote their summer internship programs and open fulltime positions, took place in the last two weekends, with the participation of 19 banks: UniCredit, Lazard, Crédit Agricole, Nomura, Morgan Stanley, BAML, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, HSBC, JP Morgan, Banca IMI, UBS, Société Générale, Mediobanca, Citi, BNP Parisbas, Barclays, RBS and Goldman Sachs. Each bank gave a presentation in the Aula Magna Gobbi and had a stand for direct contact with students. Over 2.500 students attended the presentations.

Silvia, Gabriele and Michele's experiences are common to many Bocconi students and graduates, who, thanks to this annual initiative, have the opportunity to meet investment banks' recruiters and professionals.
"The first time on the trading floor was impressive: I felt like hearing nothing but noise", says Silvia Bandinu "then I learned how to listen and I realize that I can learn something new every day".

Like them, others have taken the opportunity offered by this initiative before: Nicola Fornaballi, present at the Société Générale stand, hired after an internship, has learned French from scratch and lives now in Paris; Elisa Boscolo and Elisa Quintè reported their experiences during the Banca IMI presentation, as they have worked there for almost one year, respectively in the positions of M&A analysis and foreign exchange sales.
