Luca de Meo is the 2017 Bocconi Alumnus of the Year

THE PRESIDENT OF SEAT, A BOCCONI GRADUATE, WILL RECEIVE THE AWARD FROM THE BOCCONI ALUMNI ASSOCIATION ON OCTOBER 20

Luca de Meo, President of SEAT, has been named the 2017 Bocconi Alumnus of the Year. The award, which goes to an Alumnus who has distinguished himself by exemplifying the Bocconi values of professionalism, initiative, integrity, responsibility and openness to pluralism, this year goes to the manager who graduated in business administration from Bocconi in 1992, with a thesis on business ethics which was one of the first dissertations on this topic in Italy. The award will be presented on October 20 by the President of the Bocconi Alumni Association, Riccardo Monti.
 
"The ability to create value, to explore and invest in new management methods, creativity and an international and global approach are traits that characterise the work of de Meo and that well embody our common values. Values ​​that harmonise with the vision, the profound expertise of the different aspects of the market and with the tools best suited to navigate it - together with the constant desire to innovate," comments Riccardo Monti. "With the appointment at the helm of SEAT, which came in November 2015, Luca crowned a successful career path that led him not only to mature a profound knowledge of the automotive industry but also to hold many prestigious appointments in companies such as Renault, Toyota and Fiat, and then Volkswagen and Audi. With de Meo at the helm, SEAT returned to profit after 10 years and not by chance, but with a paradigm shift that is also confirmed in this 2017 and which is undoubtedly enhanced by the passion and stimuli that Luca manages to convey."
 
De Meo has more than 25 years experience in the automotive sector. He began his career at Renault, prior to joining Toyota Europe, followed by the Fiat Group, where he was Head of Business Units Lancia, Fiat and Alfa Romeo; CEO of Abarth, and Chief Marketing Officer of the Fiat Group. De Meo joined the Volkswagen Group in 2009 as Marketing director of the Volkswagen brand and then of the Volkswagen Group. From 2012 he was a Board of Management member for Sales and Marketing at AUDI AG, until 2015 when he was appointed President of SEAT. He is also a member of the Supervisory Board of Ducati and President of the Board of Directors of SEAT Metropolis:Lab Barcelona.
 
Furthermore, de Meo was a fellow at SDA Bocconi School of Management and author of the book ‘Da 0 a 500, Storie vissute, idee e consigli da uno dei manager più dinamici della nuova generazione’. In addition to that, Harvard University dedicated a case study to him in 2013 for his work in the Volkswagen Group as Marketing director that was included in the book ‘Collective Genius’.
 
“It is moving to receive a prize from my University, one of the most prestigious institutions in my country. I am honoured to be part of a large number of great entrepreneurs, managers, representatives of institutions and academics who have had the same privilege over the years", comments de Meo.
