Bocconi Sheds Light on Risk at MEETmeTONIGHT
Continuing a consolidated tradition, this year Bocconi University participates again, as a main partner, in MEETmeTONIGHT, the Milanese (and from this year on also Neapolitan) edition of the Researchers' Night, Friday 28 and Saturday 29 September at the Giardini Indro Montanelli in Milan.
The initiative, promoted by the European Commission, aims to spread the awareness of research professions in an entertaining and stimulating context. The great success of the previous six editions testifies to the effectiveness of the method.
The theme of Bocconi's stand at the Giardini Montanelli (from Friday, 3 pm) is Risk and uncertainty: challenges and opportunities, a journey into the world of mathematics and deductive reasoning, curated by Massimo Marinacci, holder of the AXA-Bocconi Chair in Risk and recent author of the ebook Rischio e incertezza (in Italian), published by EGEA, and Simone Cerreia Vioglio. Through interaction, games and questionnaires, visitors will approach the theme in a simple and engaging way and will have the opportunity to test themselves in activities and challenges, which will show how risk and uncertainty can also present opportunities. If they so wish, participants can have their risk appetite assessed.
On Friday 28th, at 3pm, the mathematician Angelo Guerraggio will be the protagonist of one of MEETmeTONIGHT's talks (in Italian), entitled Mathematics: is there also a funny side to it? The answer to the rhetorical question is all too easy, especially if it is asked by one of the organizers of the Italian edition of the Giochi Matematici (Math Games), now in its twenty-fifth edition, an event that involves tens of thousands of people every year, allowing them to playfully test their own logical creativity (more than their calculation ability).
The Giardini Montanelli will also host a EU Corner which, in addition to providing information on European research funding policies, will allow the public to interact directly with researchers who have received European funding, and in particular those provided by the Marie Sklodowska-Curie actions. Two researchers will represent Bocconi. On Saturday 29, from 2:45pm to 3:45pm, Aleksandra Torbica, Director of CERGAS, Centre for Research on Health and Social Care Management, will focus on the project Improving Quality of Care in Europe. Later on, from 6pm to 7:15pm, Roberto Mavilia of ICRIOS, Invernizzi Center for Research on Innovation, Organization, Strategy and Entrepreneurship, will discuss CatChain, a research project that aims to understand whether, for developing countries, it is better to enter the global value chains by sponsoring a large national champion or a set of small and medium enterprises.
