Master the Law of the Future

THE 5TH EDITION OF THE LLM IN LAW OF INTERNET TECHNOLOGY WILL START IN SEPTEMBER, DIRECTED BY ORESTE POLLICINO AND COORDINATED BY MARCO BASSINI. APPLICATIONS OPEN UNTIL JUNE

An innovative program, held entirely in English, lasting 12 months, devoted to the law of the digital environment and technological innovation, considered from an international perspective. The LLM Master in Law of Internet Technology at Bocconi University, directed by Oreste Pollicino and coordinated by Marco Bassini, is one of the very few in Europe with these specificities - and the list goes further than that.

"In this Master we not only provide theoretical training on the subject" explains Marco Bassini, “but also contact with professional entities thanks to the Bocconi network. In fact, among the faculty there are not only professors from prestigious universities around the world, but also lawyers, practitioners, and officials of Italian and European institutions. For them it is an opportunity to immediately open a contact with our graduates. Furthermore, we do not focus only on issues such as, for example, copyright, but we provide graduate students with a complete legal training".

The program is in English, a choice dictated by the consideration that digital law is more often than not supranational, as Bassini further explains: "Our focus is Europe, but also the United States. The decision to hold the program in English allows us to have a class with a strong international component (presently around 30-40% of grad students in the current edition, the fourth)", continues the professor, "and for the first time we have two North American students (one American, the other Canadian) in the program, countries where there is already presence of programs with these characteristics. It is a demonstration that we are doing a good job".

As confirmed by someone who attended the Bocconi LLM in Internet Law and today works in Milan in one of the most important tax law firms in the world, Dentons Europe, where she deals with protection of personal data and new technologies: "These are subjects I came across during my last years at the university", explains Cecilia Canova, a graduate in Law from the University of Turin who attended the 2019-2020 edition of the Bocconi Master, "one half in-person and for half remotely, a bit like everything else. The subjects covered in the LLM program are very current, international and the regulatory discipline is largely unwritten. Specializing in this area was an excellent opportunity to improve my chances on the job market".

A strong point of the LLM in Law of Internet Technology is having an international faculty and student body: "Instructors come from some of the most important universities in the world and attending their lessons means being exposed to approaches and methodologies that are different from ours, and studying with colleagues from other countries is an enriching experience on a personal level. Then there is a further, very important aspect,” continues Cecilia Canova: “The fact that also lawyers and industry professionals are part of the faculty, something that gives a more practical slant to the program and the opportunity to have a direct connection with the world of employment".

The fifth edition of the LLM Master in Law of Internet Technology will start in September 2021. It comes in a full-time version of one year, while the part-time version lasts two years. The last round of applications for both programs will close in June.
