Five Young People Will Get an Education in the Name of Luca Attanasio

THANKS TO A FUNDRAISER LAUNCHED BY THE UNIVERSITY WITH THE CONTRIBUTION OF MORE THAN 800 ALUMNI, A SCHOLARSHIP FUND HAS BEEN SET UP IN MEMORY OF THE AMBASSADOR AND BOCCONI ALUMNUS WHO WAS THE VICTIM OF AN ATTACK IN CONGO IN FEBRUARY

“The best investment a human being can make is always in another human being.” “We each have a responsibility to make a difference. We have to give as much as possible, with a smile.” “For a better world! And so we can keep dreaming!” “Education is always a good cause.” But most importantly, “Thank you Luca.”

These are just some of the messages left by the 830 Bocconi alumni who participated in the fundraising project for scholarships in memory of Luca Attanasio. A Bocconi alumnus and ambassador, he died in the tragic attack in Congo on 22 February, along with police officer Vittorio Iacovacci and Congolese driver Mustapha Milambo

The goal of the campaign has been reached and surpassed. Five deserving students in financial need will now be able to study at Bocconi with a scholarship covering tuition. In total, 90,000 euros were raised, a figure that was then matched by Bocconi University, which promoted the initiative within its community.

“Luca's example should not be forgotten and must be a reminder to all of us and to future generations to commit to making the world a better place to live,” commented Rector Gianmario Verona. “At Bocconi we do this through research and education and through an ongoing commitment to making our campus an inclusive place open to everyone. The five scholarships in memory of Luca Attanasio funded thanks to the generosity of all Bocconians are an excellent example.”

Each year, Bocconi invests €30mln to support its students. In 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this amount increased to €36mln.
