National Day in Memory of the Victims of Covid 19

THE COMMITMENT OF BOCCONI AND ITS COMMUNITY, BEYOND A MINUTE OF SILENCE

On March 18th, 2020, military vehicles rolled through the streets of Bergamo with the bodies of the victims of Covid-19 on board. That image, seen around the world, has become the symbol of the price in human lives, over 100 thousand, that Italy is paying for the pandemic. For this reason, March 18th was chosen as the National Day in memory of the victims of Covid19.

Bocconi joined the day by inviting the on-campus community to hold a minute of silence.

Since the first lockdown, the Bocconi community has been committed to the fight against the pandemic, making use of all its resources and facilities. On the research front in particular, Bocconi created the Covid crisis lab, a multidisciplinary research laboratory that studies the impacts of the pandemic on health and health systems, economics, finance and business, society, and legal systems. This important commitment is also expressed in terms of solidarity, both towards students through increased investments in scholarships, and towards Milan and Lombardy with fundraising that involved the entire Bocconi community.

The first National Day in Memory of the Victims of Covid-19 occurs in a period in which much of Italy and Milan are designated red zones. For Bocconi, as well as for all universities, this means our professors and students are engaged in remote learning, and the minute of silence will reach beyond Bocconi’s classrooms and campus to enter all our homes.
