The first BEMACS Graduates are Ready for the Digital Future

18 OF THE PIONEERS OF THE BSC IN ECONOMICS, MANAGEMENT AND COMPUTER SCIENCE HAVE GRADUATED. THE COMPANIES OF THE FUTURE ARE STARVING FOR DIGITAL SKILLS, AND YOU ARE READY, SAYS ALDO BISIO, CEO OF VODAFONE

"You are the potential leaders of the digital evolution", this is how Director Emanuele Borgonovo celebrated, together with the rector Gianmario Verona, the very first graduates of the BSc in Economics, Management and Computer Science, inaugurated in 2016 to meet the needs of a constantly evolving market. Coding, Statistics, Maths, Machine Learning, but also Economics and Management, are some of the ingredients of the program. Eighteen of the pioneers launched their graduation caps in the air during the applause of the family and friends present in the aula Magna. "Being the first ever to attend this degree program was exciting: the university asked us to provide our feedback during the program and we were pleased to see them taken into account," says Guglielmo Gattiglio, one of the recent graduates who decided to pursue his studies at Bocconi by enrolling in the MSc in Data Science and Business Analytics.

Some of them already have clear professional goals, such as Giulia Fracaro, who aspires to a career in the field of sustainable innovation and technology, Luca Mingardi, who is more oriented towards the field of consulting analytics, Renato Berlinghieri and Marco Pirazzini, who after experimenting academic research with a Bocconi Professor - thanks to a university research initiative, dream of an academic career. There are also those who want to continue to study to better understand their vocation. "In these three years I have discovered that computer science is fascinating and not 'nerdy stuff' at all," says Chiara Fusar Bassini, the youngest of the graduates, who gave a speech at the ceremony. "What is important is that at the end of this experience, if I compare the person who arrived at Bocconi three years ago with the person I have become today, I realize that I am more competent, and also confident and ready to seize all the opportunities that I will encounter".

Guest speaker of the ceremony was Aldo Bisio, CEO of Vodafone, who talked about future, digitization, innovation and the importance of human capital. "There is a growing gap between the demand and supply of human capital with digital skills," he said. "Bocconi has taken on the task of training people like you, with this kind of skills, people that companies like Vodafone extremely need”. Bisio closed his speech by advising recent graduates on how to deal with their present and future careers: "Never stop learning and do what you love, because frustration is a big enemy of companies, and always surround yourself with great people. Don't rush to get it all right now: your professional life is like a marathon, and you're still at the beginning”.
