Attorney in London. It's a question of method
BOCCONI CLASS OF 2013 GRADUATE IN LAW, THIS ALUMNA HAS CHOSEN A CAREER AS A BUSINESS LAWYER. WITH A VIEW ON THE THAMESGiusi Nicolosi, a 29-year-old from Catania, graduated in Law from Bocconi in 2013 and is now a business lawyer in the UK. She always had a taste for challenges. "It was a challenge with myself when I decided to enroll in an innovative law school like Bocconi’s, which combines law and economics. My dream as a student was to become a magistrate, then along the way I fell in love with business law and company law."
Today, Giusi works in the London office of the Legance law firm, which has offices in Milan, Rome and New York, as well as in the British capital. «I started my career in Milan, then I moved to London, a marvelous city in several ways,» says Giusi, «in particular, as far as my profession is concerned, because we work in one of the world's financial capitals.» It is often said that laws are inherently local, but in the financial industry where Giusi operates, this is not so true: "I mostly have to deal with cross-border operations, so I interface with lawyers from other countries and must be able to understand other states’ legal mechanisms; you need a certain sensibility. And in my job I often deal with foreign legal systems."
Doing an experience abroad is therefore fundamental, because it enables professional and personal growth. And London is the ideal venue for this. "Here not only a young attorney can see how colleagues from all over the world approach the profession, but you can also build a real network of people, because there are really no social barriers of any kind. I consider London, not only the city of my present, but also of my future ".
However, Ms Nicolosi’s future rests on solid foundations, acquired during her university years: "It was thanks to Bocconi that I did my first professional experience abroad, at a corporate law firm in Malaysia," Giusi concludes, "but the most important thing that the university was capable of transmitting, besides the quality content of the courses I attended which I remember with great pleasure, was a learning method imposing a constant discipline over your own time, something that turns out to be fundamental in the world of legal professions."
