Music Is Within Us, Says Paolo Fresu

THE JAZZ MUSICIAN WILL BE A GUEST SPEAKER AT BOCCONI'S BROADEN YOUR FRAME SERIES ON 1 MARCH AT 1PM. THE EVENT IS RESERVED TO STUDENTS

From architecture to jazz, from the daring shapes and colors in Alessandro Mendini’s art, to the notes and experiences of a master of Italian music. On 1 March at 1pm, trumpet player Paolo Fresu will be the guest at the next date of the Broaden Your Frame series, an initiative organized by the Graduate School and reserved to Bocconi students.

Prompted by questions from Severino Salvemini, Fresu will discuss his life lived through music, from the beginning of his passion in Sardinia to the international fame that has allowed him to play on 6 continents and with the most famous jazz musicians around the world. Fresu has recorded more than 350 concerts and is the founder of the record label Tuk Music. He also founded the international festival “Time in Jazz” in Berchidda, his hometown in Sardinia, where he the artistic curator. He is also a writer and edited the preface to Disordine Armonico: Leadership e Jazz, by Frank Barrett, published by Egea.

Music, which is within us all, is the theme for this installment of Broaden Your Frame. Because, as the jazz musician wrote in his most recent publication, La Musica Siamo Noi: “Music is the engine of my passion for stories, dialogue, knowledge, communication, teaching and travel. And all these passions, which originate from music, go back to music to feed it. Music is the center, music is the periphery. Music is us.”

“He is a poet of words, as well as of notes,” adds Salvemini. “When he meets with Bocconi students, Fresu will discuss his work as a man and as an artist. Because the world of tomorrow may look different from today’s world, including in the case of music.”
Just like for the other dates in the series, students can send their feedback after this event through a ‘triple-tweet,’ a short essay with a maximum of 840 characters. “Anyone who attends 80% of the seminars and sends feedback after each event will earn a certificate of participation,” explains Antonella Carù, Dean of the Graduate School.
