Bocconi #StartupDay: The Best Startups of 2017

MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIES, FORENSIC INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND SHARED WELFARE ARE THE FIELDS OF ACTIVITY OF THE COMPANIES THAT HAVE WON THE THIRD EDITION OF THE AWARD, ORGANIZED BY THE UNIVERSITY IN COLLABORATION WITH CITI FOUNDATION

A future in which surgical operations are simpler and less invasive (Value Biotech - MILANO), in which company welfare services are available to everyone at a reasonable cost (Jointly) and in which those who violate our copyright rights online are promptly identified (Kopjra). This is what was imagined by the startups awarded at the third edition of the Bocconi #StartupDay Award, organized by Università Bocconi with Citi Foundation as part of the #pathways2progress initiative.

Eight startups, divided into three categories, entered the final stage of the competition, with prizes for the Best startup of 2017, the Best social innovation startup and the Best Millennial startup (consisting of a team of "under 30s"). The companies have been awarded participation in management training courses at SDA Bocconi School of Management.

The prize-giving ceremony was held this morning at Bocconi University, during a #StartupDay which also saw the rectors of Bocconi University (Gianmario Verona) and Politecnico di Milano (Ferruccio Resta) present a joint project of the two universities, who have decided to pool expertise and services to create an integrated Milanese ecosystem to support entrepreneurship and create new businesses.

In the afternoon 35 selected new companies somehow linked to Bocconi (because they were launches by alumni or students or because they are hosted by the Speed MI Up incubator, participated in the StartUp Training programme or were selected from those who participated in Campus Party this summer) met potential investors.

Value Biotech - MILANO (www.valuebiotech.com)
Thanks to MILANO (Minimal Invasive Light Automatic Natural Orifice), a surgical robot that allows operations in the abdominal area passing through a small skin incision or a natural orifice, surgical operations become simpler and less invasive. The product is compact, lightweight, portable and affordable. The project was developed by two alumni of the Global Executive MBA of SDA Bocconi School of Management, Antonello Forgione and Avi Aliman, and has already won the Leonardo Startup Award presented by the Presidency of the Republic. Entrepreneurial team: Antonello Forgione, Avi Aliman, Nir Geffen and Tovi Bachar.

Social Innovation Startup 2017
Jointly (www.jointly.pro)
In the past, integrative welfare (a market estimated at 15 billion euro) has mostly been managed by large companies through direct relations with the providers of goods and services. Jointly offers a platform that allows companies to share know-how, time and costs of implementing welfare services, helping them to identify quality counterparts on the territory. With a network of 40 corporate customers (350,000 employees) and more than 200 partners, Jointly offers access to a digital platform with more than 5,000 services to support the needs of the individual. Entrepreneurial team: Anna Zattoni, Francesca Rizzi, Marcello Viti, Matteo Venturi and Silvia Torselli.

Millennial Startup 2017
Kopjra (www.kopjra.com)
Content creation and creativity are an increasingly important source of income for businesses, but infringements of intellectual rights are not easy to detect and sanction, especially in the digital environment. Kopjra's young entrepreneurs propose a forensic IT system that can detect violations, keep track of them and notify those responsible, asking for the termination of illegal behavior. The three areas in which Kopjra operates are copyright, counterfeiting and corporate reputation. Entrepreneurial team: Tommaso Grotto, Emanuele Casadio and Matteo Scapin.
