Economics and Finance, Bocconi Confirms its World-Class Ranking

IN THE WORLD UNIVERSITY RANKING 2013 BY QS, BOCCONI PLACED 17TH IN THE CATEGORY FOR ECONOMICS (5TH IN EUROPE) AND 21ST FOR FINANCE AND ACCOUNTING (4TH IN EUROPE). THE UNIVERSITY ALSO PLACED 12TH IN THE WORLD FOR THE REPUTATION OF ITS GRADUATES

Bocconi’s excellent worldwide reputation in the fields of economics and finance was consolidated as QS, the international education and professional services provider, released itsWorld University ranking by subjects 2013, placing our University in the top 25 of both areas. In the rankings of individual subjects published yesterday, Bocconi placed 17th for economics and econometrics (same as last year) and 21st in finance and accounting (19th last year).

In Europe, Bocconi came in 4th for finance and accounting, and 5th for economics. In both of these categories Bocconi is the number one institution in continental Europe. The ranking also show that the University is 12th in the world as regards the reputation of its graduates, based on the evaluations provided by companies and recruiters.

“The QS ranking confirms the outstanding position Bocconi has reached, and proves that our strong showing last year was not an isolated episode but the result of a constant and determined collective effort to improve standards of quality in our teaching and research,” explainsStefano Caselli, Vice Rector for International Affairs at Bocconi. “So these rankings at worldwide level in both finance/accounting and economics are particularly satisfying and will serve as an incentive to do even better in the future. Among other things, a closer reading of these data show that only a few European universities – all British – are ahead of us in these fields, and our position at number 12 in the world for the employer reputation indicator is an especially important achievement.”

The compilation of these rankings is based on four criteria: academic reputation based on the opinion of academics around the world, the reputation of the universities among companies based on the opinions of recruiters worldwide, citations of published papers, and – new this year – use of the H-index, created by Jorge E. Hirsch to quantify the impact of academic publishing.
