ASK Center at the Architecture Biennale

ON THE NEXT WEEKEND, AT VENICE'S ARSENALE, THE RESEARCH CENTER WILL PRESENT ITS RESEARCH SERIES ON ARTISTIC PRACTICES AND SOCIAL TRANSFORMATION. WITH STAGES IN KABUL AND IN GREECE

Art in Kabul, culture in Greece at the time of the financial odyssey, the arts system and its market, the role of journals. One of the most unusual participants in this year Venice Architecture Biennale is a Bocconi research center, ASK (Art, Science and Knowledge).

On 20 and 21 September, at Monditalia’s Weekend Specials (Corderie dell’Arsenale), a group of researchers and students will present The State of the Art - Art Practices, Cultural Practices and Social Transformation, by Stefano Baia Curioni, Laura Forti, Ilaria Morganti, Elena Rizzi and Roberto Scalmana.

Five tables will detail two research programs. The first topic is the interaction between contemporary art system and market, analyzed through the years by ASK’sObservatory on Contemporary Art, the second is the presentation of the results of the Study Tours, a form of field research shared by professors and students who every year visit – and study through dozens of interviews and meetings with artists, politicians, intellectuals and economists – the corners of the world most affected by change, be it economic growth or political and financial crisis.

Two videos will also be shown at the ASK space. One is about the Study Tour in Greece (a frame in the picture above), the other is an interview with Francesca Recchia, an independent researcher and Bocconi professor, who talks about her experience living in Kabul for 18 months searching for art practices that can ignite social transformation.

The State of the Art program includes two round-tables on Institutions & Publishing, focused on the role of journals, and a workshop with Cesare Pietroiusti, an artist who will work with Bocconi students on the sense of the artistic experience.
