In memory of Luigi Spaventa

On September 27, Napolitano, Monti, Draghi and Visco gather to remember the economist, his career and his passions.

A tribute to Luigi Spaventa, to the man and to his professional life, in the words and memories of those who knew him, including Giorgio Napolitano, Mario Draghi, Mario Monti and Ignazio Visco. All in a meeting about his life, his passions and his lectures, organized by Università Bocconi, scheduled to take place on 27 September.
The event will be introduced by Mario Monti, lifetime Senator and President of Bocconi, who will recall Spaventa's ties with the University, the years when they shared teaching in the economics program, and his contribution to the development of IGIER, the Innocenzo Gasparini Institute for Economic Research.
Filippo Cavazzuti , from University of Bologna and a former commissioner of Consob, will remember the years of Spaventa's presidency at Consob, and Emilio Giannelli , cartoonist for the Corriere della Sera and a former manager at the Monte dei Paschi di Siena, will recall Spaventa as President of that bank. Marcello De Cecco , of LUISS University , will speak about his period of study at Cambridge, and Richard Portes , president of the Centre for Economic Policy Research , of his commitment to research centers IGIER and CEPR Impg . It's up to Peter Reichlin , from LUISS, to reflect on Spaventa's activities, including teaching and research, on the Faculty of Statistics of La Sapienza University.
Eugenio Scalfari , founder of the La Repubblica, will speak on the importance of Spaventa's editorials, while Paolo Baratta , the president of the Venice Biennale , will remember his passion for music and Alberto Giovannini , CEO Unifortune sgr , his love for the mountains. Maria Teresa Salvemini , from La Sapienza University and former director general of the Cassa depositi e prestiti, will trace the experience of Spaventa as Minister for the Budget and Mario Draghi will talk about his time as Treasury Minister. Ignazio Visco will focus instead on his relationship with Sienna. To conclude the event , the President of the Republic, Giorgio Napolitano , will recall Luigi Spaventa and his relationship with politics.
