BEMACS, the Future Starts Today

WITH THE KICK OFF OF THE BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN ECONOMICS, MANAGEMENT AND COMPUTER SCIENCE A NEW PROGRAM HAS BEEN BORN

“To be prepared for the way the world is changing.” This is Arnstein Aassve’s ambition for the students of the Bachelor of Science in Economics, Management and Computer Science (BEMACS), the newly created undergraduate program that kicked off this morning with an introductory class for 90 pioneer students. “This is a bachelor for the future and I’m sure other universities will follow in our footsteps, because proficiency in computer science is becoming pivotal for understanding economics,” Aassve, the Dean of Bocconi Undergraduate School, said.

Aassve advised the students to immediately understand the way a university works: “There is less monitoring than in high school. The responsibility is all yours and it requires discipline.” The program will educate professionals who are able to interpret data through the lens of economic models. “Usually, when I have to underline the difficulties students will face, I use math as an example, but with you I must use other topics...”

A love for math is one of the reasons why many students chose BEMACS. “I’ve been always fascinated by math,” Matteo Montoro said, “and what I found very interesting about BEMACS is the possibility of combining economics and management with the digital field.” “I’m sure about my passion for economics and math,” Camilla Cestaro said.

Other students are fascinated by the computer science component. “I’m interested in programming and in computers’ interaction with the environment,” declared Guglielmo Gattiglio. “It was as if someone had read my mind: the digital world is my passion and this is a great opportunity to make my dreams come true,” said Daniela Di Rienzo. Others, finally, appreciate the challenge of being pioneers in a new program.  Alessandra De Bin: “It’s a forward-looking program, I think it’s innovative and unique. I’m expecting a challenging first year.” Marco Pirazzini: “It will allow me to specialize in a growing sector.” Giulia Fracaro: “I chose it because it is a new and challenging possibility.”

Emanuele Borgonovo, the Program Director, underlined the quality of the experience. “For many of you, these are going to be the best three years of your life,” he said. “You will acquire soft skills, learn languages, do internships and go abroad.”
