MAMA Program Opens with Bradburne and Borletti Buitoni

AT THE OPENING CEREMONY FOR THE MASTER IN ARTS MANAGEMENT AND ADMINISTRATION (MAMA) AT SDA BOCCONI THURSDAY AFTERNOON, ROUND TABLE GUESTS INCLUDED THE NEW DIRECTOR OF THE PINACOTECA DI BRERA AND THE ITALIAN UNDERSECRETARY OF CULTURAL HERITAGE

The art of managing the arts, or the importance of developing management skills for advancing and supporting cultural industries. This was the topic of the round table that was held at Bocconi on Thursday 1 October, during the opening ceremony of the Master in Arts Management and Administration (MAMA). Several leading players from cultural institutions participated, including Umberto Allemandi (Il Giornale dell’Arte), James M. Bradburne, the recently-appointed Director of the Pinacoteca di Brera, Andrea Carandini, President of FAI, Claudia Ferrazzi (Accademia di Francia) and Andreé Ruth Shammah (Teatro Franco Parenti). The event also welcomed as guest speaker Italian Undersecretary of Cultural Heritage and Tourism, Ilaria Borletti Buitoni.

Organized by SDA Bocconi and in collaboration with Fondazione Altagamma, MAMA focuses on one main topic for Italian cultural and creative industries: the management of the arts. Directed by Alex Turrini, it is an international program   for graduates with humanities degrees and professionals working at organizations in arts and culture (i.e. museums, theaters and festivals). The Master aims to develop specific management and leadership skills for anyone interested in working in the arts industry. Thanks to collaborations with outstanding partners and institutions, the Master provides participants with a comprehensive program with hands-on projects, seminars, guided tours and opportunities to develop their career in the field of Arts Management.
 
MAMA, along with Master programs on fashion, design and food, meet Altagamma’s mission of promoting and disseminating Italian culture and art around the world. It supports in particular the Cultural and Creative Industry, which represents 4% of the national GDP and employs around 500,000 people directly and indirectly.

Bruno Busacca, Dean of the SDA Bocconi School of Management, emphasized the importance of the program’s partners: “Today we are inaugurating the MAMA Master in Art Management and Administration, which focuses on advancing the country’s cultural heritage. We work with the patronage of institutions such as the Filarmonica della Scala, FAI, the Vatican Museums, Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, Skira, Sky Arte, Teatro Franco Parenti, Fondazione Arena di Verona, Christie's, Balich Worldwide Shows and The Art Newspaper.”
