Federica And The Ecologic Charm of Sustainable Energy
THE FASCINATION WITH RENEWABLES OF FEDERICA BERGAMINO, AN EMIT GRADUATE OF THE GREEN MANAGEMENT MAJOR, IS GROWING STEADILY“Refusing to accept that renewable energies represent our future is completely obsolete! The industry is expanding also in Italy, which ranks second in Europe after Germany for the use of photovoltaic and biomasses” says Federica Bergamino, who completed the MA in Economics and Management of Innovation and Technology in October 2014. She had not graduated yet when, in September, she started working as a renewable energy analyst at Prothea, a consulting firm in the market of renewable energy and of water resources. “It is a small and yet growing company” explains Federica, who found the job via Job Gate, the online platform of Università Bocconi – “and it is one of the few Italian consulting firms that are exclusively specialised in this sector. I am part of the team dealing with photovoltaic plants, biomasses and wind power, and as an analyst, I assess companies or specific projects related to the sustainable energy market. Along with the economic skills that I learned at university, I think that what earned me the job was my enthusiasm for these topics.”
“I have always been interested in green development, since I was at high school. Once I finished my BA, I understood that I could have the chance to work in that area.” Federica completes the BIEM (Bachelor in International Economics and Management) with a dissertation on the Emission Trading System, the scheme through which the EU controls the emissions of air pollutants and greenhouse gases. And when the time comes to choose a specific curriculum inside the MA, it is without hesitation that Federica opts for Green Management which, especially during the months spent in exchange in Göteborg, Sweden, allows her to further examine the field of environmental economics and sustainability.
“I am very content with my job: I have always had an inclination towards renewable energy, but before I had no idea about how a photovoltaic plant actually works, how much energy it can produce, or about the possibilities connected to biomasses. Since I joined Prothea I have gathered a lot of technical knowledge and I am more and more fascinated by the green universe. I am thinking about the clean energy coming from bio-waste, which turns from a cost into a resource. This is astonishing! Recently we have been shown the pilot project of plants producing electricity thanks to tides and waves. Such leading-edge technologies are especially common in Northern Europe. Nevertheless, there is potential for innovation in Italy too.”
