A Challenge in Financial Research for Bocconi Students

A TEAM OF FIVE BOCCONIANS WILL PARTICIPATE IN THE ITALIAN PHASE OF THE CFA RESEARCH CHALLENGE

The CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) Research Challenge is a prestigious global competition among students of finance organized by the CFA Institute, an association that promotes high ethical standards in the international financial community since 1947.
Again this year, Bocconi University will participate to the Italian phase, which will take place on Tuesday, March 3 in the Milan office of PwC, with its own team of students, led by professors Massimo Guidolin and Paul Ghiringhelli and mentored by the CFA tutor, Chiara Bertolesi. The team consists of Stefano Masciello, Federico Landoni, Giorgia Pontico, Elijah Kühnreich and Julian Matz (the only one not in the group photo). The session of the Italian phase challenge include: analysis of a listed company, the drafting of an analysis report and the presentation of the research to a panel of experts in English.

The CFA Institute Research Challenge, which in the edition of 2014/15 will involve 3,700 students from 825 universities and 60 countries, aims to promote the "best practices" in the field of equity research through direct mentoring of professionals, real case studies  and intensive training on financial analysis. The Italian phase of the challenge will see nine teams, representing their respective universities and formed by students who have passed a tough selection. The competition involves the leading universities of economics and finance in Italy: Bocconi University, Politecnico of Milan, Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan, Pavia University, Padua University, Ca 'Foscari of Venice, Modena and Reggio Emilia University, Bologna University and Trieste University. Each team has a mentor who provides to students their expertise on financial markets and analysis. Four partners will join CFA Society Italy: Datalogic, worldwide supplier of bar code readers and other innovative solutions for the collection of data, will be the subject of the analysis; Pwc and Fidelity will chair the panel of experts and Bloomberg will provide students with its own informative system.

The best Italian group will win a place in the semi-final (on 1st and 2nd April 2015 in Amsterdam), competing with teams from Europe, Middle East and Africa. Eventually, the European winning team of the competition will participate at the World final (on April 17, 2015), competing with the best teams from Asia and America.
