Work at Your 100% if You Want to Exploit Luck
LUCA MIGNINI, PRESIDENT GLOBAL BISCUITS AND SNACKS AT CAMPBELL SOUP COMPANY, HAD A FACE2FACE MEETING WITH STUDENTS“If someone had asked me fifteen years ago which are the determinants of your career, I would have replied: 100% yourself. Nowadays I think it’s 50% yourself and 50% luck. In order to exploit luck, though, you always have to give 100%”. These are the first words Luca Mignini, President – Global Biscuits and Snacks at Campbell Soup Company, addressed to the Bocconi students who attended a Face2Face meeting with him.
Before replying to students’ questions, Mignini, a Bocconi graduate in business administration in 1986, reassured those who are uncertain about their working future. “Not knowing what to do after university is not alarming. It’s much more easier to sum up a career than to plan it. In my case, just chance led me to start working in a marketing position, after a thesis in strategy. The important thing is curiosity: never say no to something if you don’t know enough about it”.
