A Year of Career Advice

BAA MEMBERS WILL BE ABLE TO ACCESS GOINGGLOBAL, AN AGGREGATOR THAT GATHERS 16 MILLION JOB OFFERS FROM AROUND THE WORLD

New seminars, a collaboration with Manpower, access to 16 million job offers from around the world, a focus on mentoring and coaching opportunities. These are the ingredients that are in the mix for Career Advice in 2015.

First of all, on the front of seminars, there will be new initiatives open to all alumni. The first compares expertise from two worlds: “Manager vs Entrepreneur”, which brings together Claudio Ceper (pictured), professional counseling expert and Giulio Cesareo, president and managing director of Directa Plus, a company working in the nanomaterials industry. The event is already scheduled for 3 March in Milan. The second is a series of four seminars (also in streaming) on the art of networking. Another date to mark on your calendars is 19 January: Manpower, in collaboration with the BAA, has organized the series “Maximize Your Role”, focused on personal professional development (which will also be available in streaming).

In addition, events on job interviews and career planning will continue. In 2014 there were 21 stops in Italy and abroad (in Brussels, Lugano, Geneva and Zurich). The new development is that next year events will also be held in Puglia, Sicily and Sardinia.

An analysis of 2014 seminars, however, exposes various needs: “First of all, there is a need for a real understanding of how the job market works from the point of view of headhunters,” explains Ceper, a speaker at all events and a BAA Board Member for the Career area along with Anna Simioni and Giovanni Mocchi. “There are lots of legends in the industry, so the first part of my job has been to provide a specific framework.” Secondly: a need for more self-awareness. “It’s fundamental to develop a personal brand, to be aware of your means, your strengths and weaknesses, which will foster problems if they are in conflict with each other.” In this, he says, “women are quicker than men, they learn faster and act accordingly. They are less reluctant to change their habits.”

Regarding looking for work, access to the portal Manageurs.com is now supported by the GoingGlobal portal, an aggregator that gathers 16 million job offers from around the world, in addition to information on cities, countries guides and tips on how to approach the local job market.

For mentoring, Career Advice is looking for both new mentors, especially in the areas of marketing, sales and digital publishing and new mentees (watch this double interview on the importance of mentoring activities). Lastly, coaching will continue, as a service led by external certified coaches (who are also Bocconi alumni) is already active.
To conclude, the year ahead will be full of great initiatives for alumni.

Because, as even Claudio Ceper says, “finding work today has become a lot of work.”
