MIT Sloan and SDA Bocconi on the Podium of the Rolex MBA Conference and Regatta

THE THIRTEENTH EDITION SAW THE PARTICIPATION OF OVER 400 STUDENTS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD FOR THREE DAYS OF SAILING AND NETWORKING IN SANTA MARGHERITA LIGURE. IN ADDITION TO COMPETITIVE FUN, STUDENTS MAKE LONGLASTING CONTACTS AND FRIENDSHIPS

Onto the podium went MIT Sloan School of Management, followed by SDA Bocconi and Sauder School of Business - these the top three business schools of the thirteenth edition of the Rolex MBA’s Conference & Regatta, held in this last weekend of September in the waters of Santa Margherita Ligure.

Organized by the Sailing Club of SDA Bocconi with the Yacht Club Italiano and the partnership of Rolex, the event saw over 400 students participating, representing 60 different nationalities and coming from 21 business schools.

“Knowing how to sail a boat,” says Patricia Faraci of the Sailing Club of SDA Bocconi, “is like knowing how to manage a company, you need team spirit, a sense of belonging and respect of roles. There are moments of lull but also crisis moments which have to be resolved quickly.”

“Participating in these events is a chance for a cultural exchange and also the chance to create a network of contacts which will remain beyond the three days of the regatta,” says Patricia. A fact confirmed by the high number of alumni who come to the regatta every year.

Together with the main A Division competition, also the B Division, reserved to alumni, had its winner: the boat Petit Chou run by a mixed team, followed by Windy One of École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne and Mondo X with a SDA Bocconi team on board.

The evening of Saturday 24, meanwhile, saw the success of the conference ‘Fast & Curious: Innovating for Value’ with participants exchanging opinions with Wing Commander Andy Green, RAF pilot and World land speed record holder, and Ian Livingstone, entrepreneur and one of the founding fathers of the games and videogames industry in England.

The top schools in the sailing competition:

1. MIT Sloan School of Management
2. SDA Bocconi
3. Sauder School of Business
4. London Business School
